Eight years ago, Jeff Rients posted a list of 20 questions to help define a campaign setting. Here are the answers for the Miralia campaign.

What is the deal with my cleric’s religion?

The Church of Holy Grace holds the Emperor is the representative of the gods on Earth.

A few people still pray to pagan gods (mostly but not only Celtic and Roman pantheons), but the Church does not allow them any formal religious structure. The only surviving (loosely) organized religion apart from the Church is the Druidic order, who worship Nature itself and lots of petty gods.

Where can we go to buy standard equipment?

Any town or city, the larger the better.

Where can we go to get platemail custom fitted for this monster I just befriended?

Nowhere in human lands, but the Gnomes probably can do this.

Who is the mightiest wizard in the land?

Hard to say as wizards are a secretive bunch, but the Iron Wizard who lives in the northeast wilderness by the Darkwood is a good candidate.

Who is the greatest warrior in the land?

The Netherin Ducerak, the Prince’s bodyguard. He was a mercenary captain serving the Prince’s grandmother 35 years ago, and he has been in service to her family ever since.

Who is the richest person in the land?

Officially, Prince Commens. The high dignitaries of the Church are not supposed to own anything themselves, but they have access to the Church treasury which may well dwarf anything in the Prince’s coffers.

Where can we go to get some magical healing?

If you have gold to spare and nothing to hide, any sufficiently important church or monastery of the Holy Grace will do. In other cases, a local druid or pagan priest is probably a safer bet.

Where can we go to get cures for the following conditions: poison, disease, curse, level drain, lycanthropy, polymorph, alignment change, death, undeath?

Only a few priests can provide this, either in Miralia City or in the large monasteries. There may be druids powerful enough too, but they don’t advertise the fact.

Is there a magic guild my MU belongs to or that I can join in order to get more spells?

The only guild allowed in the Principalty is the Order of High Wizardry, which is directly serving the Prince. You can’t simply decide to join, you need a sponsor.

Where can I find an alchemist, sage or other expert NPC?

There are two universities in the Principalty, one in Miralia City and the other at Vergalis Abbey. Most scholars and experts not affiliated with either of them can be found in Arwik Harbour and in a few other important monasteries.

Where can I hire mercenaries?

The Netherin nomads in the Nethra Steppe are excellent archers and light cavalry.

Is there any place on the map where swords are illegal, magic is outlawed or any other notable hassles from Johnny Law?

In feudal lands (including Church), anybody can carry weapons provided they swear fealty to the local lord. In towns and cities, weapons must be bound except for the local watch or militia.

Magic itself is allowed in most places, although a few lords forbid it on their lands. However many specific uses are forbidden; this include damaging spells and curses (of course), but also many forms of divination. The penalty for these most often is death.

Which way to the nearest tavern?

South, second turn to the right.

What monsters are terrorizing the countryside sufficiently that if I kill them I will become famous?

Elves.

Are there any wars brewing I could go fight?

You mean, like, the war with the Elves? Unless you want to spend months crossing the Empire just to get yourself killed in Lemdar?

How about gladiatorial arenas complete with hard-won glory and fabulous cash prizes?

Nope, not any more, that was centuries ago. These days, people prefer wrestling, and chariot races in cities.

Are there any secret societies with sinister agendas I could join and/or fight?

If I told you, they wouldn’t be secret, would they?

What is there to eat around here?

Chicken, cabbage, peas, carrots, onions, olives. On feast days, you can get goat in the south, sheep in the north and pork more or less everywhere.

Any legendary lost treasures I could be looking for?

The Sword of Lurne (lost with its owner, the first Prince, in the Darkwood a millenium ago), the spells of Sevempal (in his long-lost tower in the Arwik Mounts), the bow of Elthendel (not precisely lost as it always was in elven hands, but definitely legendary). In addition, you could look for the legendary Dwarven Golden Cities in the Ezel Mounts, or maybe the burial mounds of the Netherin.

Where is the nearest dragon or other monster with Type H treasure?

In the Darkwood, where else would they be?
