How many sessions have you been playing, more or less?
How long have you been running this campaign?
20 months or so.
Have you had long breaks? If so, how did you pick it up again?
Not more than a few weeks for vacations.
How many people are at the table when you play?
4 or 5 players and myself.
How many characters are in the party when you play?
4 or 5 PCs, plus currently one henchman.
How many players have you had in total over that time period, not counting guest appearances?
Have you had guest appearances? How did it go? Did you gain regular players that way?
No guest appearances.
Actually we had one but not quite. :-) When the former player left, he arranged to have his character killed. Next session, he and I had him play a new character who turned out to be a traitor, I’m not sure it qualifies.
What have the character levels been over time?
Started at level 1, currently everyone is level 5.
What classes did the players pick? Did you add new classes over time?
Paladin, druid, ranger, rogue, wizard (we are playing a variant of 5E).
The player who left played a paladin and was replaced by another paladin. The “new” paladin died and was raised; he was replaced by a fighter in the interim.
Tell me about some adventures you ran over that time that I might enjoy hearing about?
Not full adventures, but maybe that time when they had to deal with a mercenary squad because the rogue did not want to pay a doctor? Or the two distinct encounters with gelatinous cubes, which led to two paladin deaths?
Have the rule changes over that time? Do you maintain a house-rules document?
The player-facing rules have remained the same AFAICT; there have been a few DM-facing changes (random encounters, monster stats, morale…). I don’t have a full house rules document, just a few links and snippets in the campaign wiki.
Has the setting changed over time?
It is changing quite fast, there is a civil war going on, but the players have been happy to avoid getting involved so far.
How much in-game distance did the party cover, how big is the area they have visited?
They have spent most of the campaign around the small city they are based in. The remaining time, they covered a few hundred km, plus one trip through a portal which led them who knows where.
Have you used proprietary setting books? Like, could you publish your campaign or would you be in trouble if you did?
This campaign is basically GAZ1 thirty years earlier.
